Dachshunds are available in three varieties, smooth haired, long haired and wire haired. Therefore, dog grooming depends on their coat types. The smooth haired ones have smooth and straight hair, the long haired ones have long and straight hair that are needed to be trimmed at regular intervals and the wire haired ones have wiry, coarse and harsh hair that are quite difficult to groom.

They are available in different colors. You may choose as per your like. Sable, cream, black, red, tan and fawn are few to name. They are also available in different sizes- toy, miniature and standard. The standard puppy weighs around twenty pounds, miniature around nine pounds but it is the toy one who is just eight pounds in weight and almost appears like a toy.

Now, about the dog health. The biggest risk to their health is obesity. They have the tendency to put on loads of weight. Therefore, you need to be very particular about their dog feeding. You should see that they don't overeat. Overall, dachshunds are great pets and on getting proper pet care, they can commit a long term friendship.
