Dalmatians are nice to look at and good to be with. They wear white fur coats strewn with black or dark brown spots all over. Quite muscular in appearance, they are around 19 to 23 inches in height and 50 to 65 pounds in weight.

The little ones are born spotless and start developing spots in a year or so. They are quite energetic, playful and fun loving creatures. They are good with older kids and get along well with them. However, when it comes to younger children they must be watched around, for they are too energetic and bubbly to take care of the tender tiny tots. In their unbridled desire to play and entertain they might end up harming the little one. They are affectionate and adore being in human company.

Therefore, if you have a Dalmatian for a pet, do spend some quality time with him. They love nothing more than being with the family. It naturally follows that they absolutely hate being left alone. Not even outdoors. They need to be trained early, for they respond very well and turn into very obedient pets when trained at an early age.

They sometimes are a little tough during training but if you are firm and affectionate, they take to training like fish to water.

Armed with excellent memories, Dalmatians would remember bad experiences for an amazing period of time. So do not hurt the fellow. They are great family pets naturally and can be effectively trained into able watchdogs as well.

Being energetic and of strong build, they need plenty of exercise. Therefore, the modern apartment-houses do not suit them, and if you can’t help it, go for a walk daily in the park where you could make him run around with a ball. Better if you jog along, for that would keep both you and your dog good in shape.

You need not take any special care of these dogs, for the nature has provided them with enough cleanliness in short hair on their bodies that need to be simply brushed once in a while unless the fellow looks particularly dirty, in which case a good bath might be necessary.

Get a Dalmatian if you want an affectionate family pet, a jogging partner and a good watchman all rolled into one.
